Art - Traditional
All children from pre-Kindergarten through eighth grade are given a thorough Art appreciation and practical instruction via our Traditional Art Classes. Highlights of the Art curriculum are annually planned field trips to the Art Institute and the Mexican Fine Arts Museum.
The trip to the Mexican Fine Arts Museum has become an annual event in the school for our fifth graders and is coordinated with the Spanish Department. After attending the exhibit, the students visit a local bakery to taste some fine Mexican treats, and the trip is capped off with an authentic Mexican meal at a restaurant recommended by the head of the Spanish Department.
In our Junior High grades (sixth through eighth), we visit the Van Gogh and Gauguin exhibit at the Art Institute. The exhibit has proved invaluable in learning about these great artists, and provides a source of insight toward the students' future appreciation of the arts.
Art - Computer Graphics
The older grades devote half of their year to studying art principles through electronic media for their Computer Science grade.
The seventh grade studies a variety of computer art production techniques including 2D and 3D graphics, photo manipulation, animation, and website design. Special attention is paid to the use of computers in commercial art.
The eighth grade studies the art of cinematography and filmmaking. The class studies the role and history of cinematography, and each student has the opportunity to work in all phases of producing a short film using digital editing.
